Redeeming the Dead
"Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?" (1 Corinthians 15:29)
This is one of the most exciting doctrines of the restored Church of Jesus Christ in these last days. When Peter said, ". . . Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:" (Acts 10:34) I am sure he was including those who had passes on without hearing the Gospel. After all Peter did in fact say, "For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit." (1 Peter 4:6) For how could God on the one hand bless a few who by chance were born into circumstances that allowed them the opportunity to learn the Gospel and not others? For Jesus Himself told Nicodemus, ". . . Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." (John 3:5) Our Heavenly Father by allowing all of His children the opportunity to partake of the saving doctrines and ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ truly shows that He "is no respecter of persons." This is the grand and wonderful reason the Lord has instructed prophets to build Holy Temples today even a House of the LORD. For within those hollowed walls these saving ordinances are performed vicariously in their behalf.
